Sermons

First Castroville Sermons.
In this message from Week 3 of our Reframe Church series, Pastor Rodney unpacks a powerful truth: sent people do not remain isolated. Building on the foundation that if Jesus has all authority and we belong to Him, then we are sent, this sermon challenges us to see that our faith was never meant to be lived alone.

Drawing from and key passages like Ephesians 4 and Acts 2, Pastor Rodney explains how Jesus doesn’t just send individuals—He builds and sends a body. When we resist community, we resist God’s design. But when we choose interdependence over isolation, we grow into maturity, stability, and effectiveness for the Great Commission.

In this message, you’ll discover:

Why spiritual growth is always communal, never private

How isolation distorts your faith and slows the mission

What it means for Jesus to be the Head of the Church

How the early church modeled shared life, prayer, and devotion

Why your growth affects more than just you

A practical next step to begin growing with someone this week

If you’ve ever felt hurt, disconnected, or tempted to “go it alone” in your faith, this message is for you. Community may cost time, vulnerability, and patience—but it produces strength, maturity, and mission-driven living.

Together really is better. And when the church grows together, the world takes notice.

Together Is Better: Why Isolation Is Slowing Your Faith | Reframe Church Wk03

First Castroville March 2, 2026 8:13 pm

In this message, Pastor Rodney discusses the true meaning of the Great Commission and how if you embrace your identity as someone reconciled to God, it will help you step into your God-given mission with courage and obedience.

Before we can be sent, we must first be reconciled. Pastor Rodney reminds us that the most important question we can ever answer isn’t whether we attend church or grew up around Christian language—it’s whether we have personally confessed Jesus Christ as Lord. Salvation is not inherited. Faith is not cultural. Repentance is a turning, and reconciliation with God changes everything.

But salvation does not end in stillness—it moves.

In this powerful message, we unpack Matthew 28 and the authority of the risen Christ. Jesus didn’t suggest we make disciples—He commanded it. Under His authority as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, we are called not just to attend, not just to agree, but to go and make disciples. The Great Commission is not a program the church runs—it is the identity of the church.

Pastor Rodney challenges us to examine whether we’ve reduced a command into a suggestion. Have we grown comfortable admiring the mission without participating in it? Have we outsourced obedience? If Christ has all authority and we belong to Him, then we are sent.

Drawing from 2 Corinthians 5 and Acts 1:8, this sermon reminds us:

Reconciliation precedes responsibility.

Grace precedes mission.

We are ambassadors of Christ.

The mission begins in our “Jerusalem” — right where we live.

You don’t need a platform. You don’t need a script. You need obedience.

This week’s challenge is simple but powerful: write down one name of one person in your life who does not know Jesus. Pray for them. Share that name with a trusted believer. Because the command that reaches the ends of the earth begins at your front door.

If Jesus is King, and you belong to Him, then you are sent.

The Command We’ve Made Comfortable | Reframe Church Wk02

First Castroville February 24, 2026 1:54 pm

In this powerful kickoff to our new series “Reframe Church,” Pastor Rodney challenges us to examine the assumptions we’ve carried about church—many of which we’ve never even questioned .

We all live with assumptions. We assume hard work guarantees results. We assume busy equals productive. We assume our way is the right way. And in the Bible Belt, we often assume we understand church simply because we’ve always been around it . But what if our familiarity has kept us from fully understanding what Jesus actually meant when He said, “I will build my church”?

In this message, Pastor Rodney walks us through Matthew 16 at Caesarea Philippi—a place filled with idols, pagan worship, and what was known as the “gates of Hades.” It was there, in the middle of spiritual confusion and cultural noise, that Jesus asked the most important question: “Who do you say I am?”

Peter’s confession—“You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God”—was not inherited, cultural, or convenient. It was revealed truth. And Jesus declared that on that confession, He would build His Church—and the gates of hell would not overcome it .

This sermon addresses two common drifts that subtly shape how we approach church today:

• Cultural Christianity – Showing up without surrender.
• Church Hurt – Staying near but keeping your heart guarded.

Both can keep us close to church while far from true belonging in Christ .

You’ll be challenged to consider:

Have you inherited faith without owning it?

Are you attending without surrendering?

Has hurt shaped your view of church more than Jesus has?

Have you personally confessed Christ as Lord?

Pastor Rodney reminds us that church is not a place you go—it’s a people you are. It’s not built on preference, personality, or programs, but on the revealed truth that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God .

If you have been near Jesus without truly knowing Him…
If you’ve been shaped more by culture or pain than by Christ…
If you’ve been attending without surrendering…

This message invites you to repentance, belief, reconciliation, and realignment.

Before we can step into the mission of Christ, we must first be reconciled to Christ.

If this message spoke to you, take a moment to reflect on the prayer Pastor Rodney shared:
“Jesus, if I have been near You without knowing You, reveal Yourself to me. If I’ve been attending without surrendering, turn my heart. Re-anchor my faith in Your finished work.”

Church Hurt, Cultural Faith, and the Confession That Changes Everything

First Castroville February 16, 2026 10:24 pm

n this message, Pastor Travis Garcia continues our VANTAGE series in Epistle to the Romans chapter 8, challenging us to see suffering, waiting, and hardship from a completely different perspective. Through Romans 8:18–25, we’re reminded that what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory God has prepared for His children — and that if you anchor your hope in Christ and actively endure with faith, it will help you live with resilience, confidence, and purpose even in difficult seasons.

Building on last week’s reminder that we are adopted sons and daughters of God, this message explores what it means to live as heirs — people who have a promised inheritance. Pastor Travis unpacks how hope is not passive optimism, but active endurance. Just as Joshua and Caleb waited 40 years to enter the Promised Land, and just as creation itself “groans” in anticipation of restoration, we are called to wait eagerly and faithfully for what God has promised.

Through powerful illustrations — from a long, uncomfortable ski trip to the imagery of a ruined castle under restoration — we see that waiting is often filled with hardship. But biblical hope isn’t putting our heads in the sand. It’s lamenting honestly, trusting boldly, and living missionally. Because of Jesus’ finished work on the cross, our hope is rooted in something secure. The same God who transforms sinners into sons and daughters is the God who will one day make all things new.

In this sermon, you’ll discover:
• Why suffering does not cancel your inheritance
• What it means to “groan” with hope instead of despair
• How lament and faith work together
• Why your identity as God’s adopted child changes how you endure
• How to actively live out hope in your family, school, and community

When we understand that the kingdom of God has already begun — but is not yet fully complete — we can live with courage. We become ambassadors of hope. We pray boldly. We serve faithfully. We point others to the coming restoration.

If you’re walking through a hard season, questioning whether things will ever change, or wondering how to remain faithful while you wait — this message will encourage you to lift your eyes to the horizon. The Builder has already begun His work. And He invites us to join Him.

Hope on the Horizon | Enduring Suffering with a New Perspective (Romans 8)

First Castroville February 16, 2026 5:04 pm

Pastor Travis Garcia walks us through one of the most hope-filled passages in Scripture—Romans 8:14–17—and reminds us that fear does not get to define who we are.

In this message, Pastor Travis discusses our identity as adopted sons and daughters of God, and how if you humbly surrender to Christ and embrace who He says you are, it will help you break free from fear and live with resilience, confidence, and hope.

Drawing from Romans 8, Pastor Travis shows us that we have not been given a spirit of slavery that leads to fear—but a Spirit of adoption. Because of Jesus, we are invited into God’s family, given a new name, and granted full access to call Him “Abba, Father.” That truth changes everything.

Through relatable stories—including overcoming fear at Fiesta Texas and the powerful parable of the Prodigal Son—this sermon highlights:

✨ How fear whispers lies about our identity
✨ Why humility is the starting point for transformation
✨ The surprising compassion of our Heavenly Father
✨ What it means to be adopted into God’s family
✨ How perfect love drives out fear (1 John 4:18)
✨ Why suffering does not cancel our inheritance—but refines it

Fear may be loud, but it is not your family name.

Whether your fear centers around rejection, loneliness, failure, or the unknown, this message reminds you that your identity is rooted in Christ—not in your circumstances. You are not abandoned. You are adopted. You are not defined by your past. You are defined by God’s love.

When we truly grasp that we are children of the King, it reframes how we face suffering, uncertainty, and everyday challenges. This new vantage point gives us endurance, hope, and courage to move forward—even when fear tries to pull us back.

If this message encouraged you, share it with someone who needs to be reminded of their identity in Christ today.

Fear Is Not Your Family Name | Adopted, Not Defined

First Castroville February 16, 2026 2:28 pm

In this message, Pastor Rodney and Pastor Travis discuss how prayer transforms from a practice into a part of our identity—and how when prayer becomes who you are, God's power becomes what you see. If you make prayer your DNA, it will help you experience revival, unity, and lasting spiritual change—in your home, church, and community.

As we close out the 21 Days of Prayer journey, this final message reminds us that prayer isn't just a religious activity or something we do at the beginning of a meal or service. It’s the lifeblood of the early church, and it must become the same for us today.

From the upper room in Acts to our living rooms today, Pastor Rodney shares how the power of prayer shaped the early believers—and how it still shakes foundations today. Through honest conversation, biblical examples, and practical steps, we’re invited to embrace prayer not only as a means of communication with God, but as a unifying force that brings renewal to our souls, our families, and our church.

🕊️ You’ll learn:

Why prayer must become part of your spiritual DNA

How united prayer unlocks the supernatural (Acts 1:14, John 17:20-21, 2 Chronicles 7:14)

The difference between praying about things and praying through things

Why obedience and prayer go hand in hand

What it looks like to cultivate a praying household and a praying church

Whether you’re praying for revival in your family, breakthrough in your church, or salvation for someone you love—this message will inspire you to move from passive prayer to powerful partnership with God.

✝️ Pastor Rodney also leads a corporate moment of prayer using three simple, powerful prompts:

Lord, revive me – for personal renewal

Lord, renew us – for church unity and boldness

Lord, rescue them – for those far from God

Don’t let this just be the end of a 21-day journey—let it be the beginning of a praying lifestyle that fuels action, deepens faith, and brings heaven to earth.

21 Days Wk 04 YT

First Castroville January 28, 2026 3:15 pm

In this message, Pastor Rodney explores the power of prayer and how, when you choose to lean into intimacy, surrender, and intercession, it will help you deepen your relationship with God and transform your spiritual life.

Too often, we treat prayer as a last resort or something reserved for the “spiritually elite.” But Pastor Rodney reminds us that Jesus modeled a life of rhythmic prayer—praying in the quiet moments, in the chaos, and at the crossroads of life. Through Luke 11 and other Gospel insights, this sermon reveals how Jesus’ authority flowed from His intimacy with the Father—and how that same intimacy is available to us.

You’ll learn:

Why prayer isn’t about eloquence, but about depth and relationship.

How to overcome fear of intimacy with God and others through community and small groups.

The three postures of powerful prayer: Intimacy, Surrender, and Intercession—and how to practice each one.

How Jesus prayed Scripture—and how you can too, using the "4 R's": Read, Reflect, Respond, and Rest.

Why protecting your time with God isn’t optional—it’s essential.

That Jesus is still interceding for you today (Hebrews 7:25)!

This isn’t just a message about how to pray—it’s a call to live prayerfully. You’ll walk away not only inspired but equipped to make prayer your rhythm, not your reaction.

How Jesus Prayed—and Why It Will Change Your Life | 21Days Wk03

First Castroville January 22, 2026 8:12 pm

In this message, Pastor Rodney explores why prayer often feels like a battle—and how if you keep praying even when you feel nothing, it will help you grow stronger in faith, break through spiritual resistance, and experience the power of God's presence.

We’re in Week 2 of 21 Days of Prayer, and this message takes us into the spiritual trenches. Prayer isn’t always peaceful—sometimes it’s war. Pastor Rodney reminds us through Daniel 10 that God hears us the moment we pray, but sometimes spiritual battles delay the answers. So what should we do when God feels distant? When our prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling? When silence shakes our faith?

This sermon unpacks the barriers that hold us back from deep, effective prayer: pride, unconfessed sin, and discouragement. Each of these keeps us from fully connecting with God, but Pastor Rodney offers biblical truth and practical tools—like the ACTS model of prayer (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication)—to help us stay rooted when prayer gets hard.

You’ll also hear how:

Prayer is not preparation for the battle—it IS the battle.

Spiritual warfare shows up in the form of distraction, discouragement, and delay.

Silence is not absence. Delay is not denial.

God is working, even when we can’t see it yet.

🔥 If you’ve ever struggled to stay consistent in prayer or felt like giving up—this is for you.

Pastor Rodney shares encouragement from Ephesians 6 and Daniel 10, reminding us that prayer warriors aren’t perfect—they’re persistent. When we refuse to quit, we grow. When we press through resistance, we step into the spiritual power God intended for us to walk in.

💬 Key Takeaways:

God hears your prayers from day one—even when answers are delayed.

Prayer invites spiritual warfare because it challenges pride and darkness.

Unconfessed sin and discouragement can hinder your prayer life—but confession and truth set you free.

Don’t microwave what God is slow-cooking in your life. The waiting has purpose.

Use the ACTS prayer model to build a daily rhythm of real conversation with God.

🙏 “Prayer isn’t the calm after the storm—it’s the fight that gets us through it.”
Don’t stop praying. Don’t quit mid-battle. Stay on your knees until victory comes.

Don’t Stop Mid-Battle: How to Pray When It’s Hard | 21Days Wk02

First Castroville January 15, 2026 4:59 pm

In this message, Pastor Rodney kicks off the “21 Days” series by discussing the power of prayer and how when you reconnect to God through humble, dependent prayer, it will help you live with clarity, peace, and power instead of burnout, anxiety, and spiritual dryness.

We live in a world full of spiritual activity but often lack true connection. Like a spinning wheel on a frozen screen, many believers and churches are running with motion but no power—disconnected from the Source. In this powerful kickoff message to our 21 Days of Prayer, Pastor Rodney shares a deep and convicting challenge: What would change if the Holy Spirit left our church for a week? Would we even notice?

Through Scripture, including Philippians 4, John 15, Luke 3, and Hebrews 4, Pastor Rodney walks us through what it really means to live a life of prayer—not as an obligation but as a relationship. He reminds us that prayer isn’t a spiritual accessory; it's our lifeline. When prayer becomes essential again, God's presence brings peace that surpasses understanding, boldness in the face of fear, and transformation that strategy alone can't achieve.

Key Insights from the Message:

Prayer is the breath of the dependent, not the language of the strong.

When we pray, we trade our anxiety for intimacy with our Heavenly Father.

Prayer positions us to hear God's voice, shifts our self-reliance, and realigns our hearts.

The early church didn’t just talk about prayer—they depended on it.

Jesus himself modeled a life saturated in prayer—and if He needed it, how much more do we?

Practical Takeaways:
Pastor Rodney introduces a simple yet powerful "Five-Minute Start" model for prayer:

Thank – Begin with gratitude.

Tell – Pour out your heart honestly.

Trust – Release it all into God’s hands.

Set a time. Find a place. Use the pattern. And start writing down one sentence a day:
“Today I thanked God for...” or “Today I trusted God with...”

This message is more than a sermon—it’s a call back to power. These 21 Days are not a program or a religious event, but a realignment with the God who still moves when His people pray.

🙌 Let’s become a praying people. Let’s be the church that moves heaven and shakes hell.
