Questions you may have...
What time are the services on Sundays?
First Baptist Church of Castroville celebrates Sunday morning worship at 10:30. We sing songs to the Lord (along with our great band) and the Pastor brings us a message from the word of God which will be relevant in our everyday lives. We will never single you out; you will not be made to stand up by yourself, but we will try to make you feel as welcome as possible.
In addition to our adult services, we have a Children’s Church especially for children Kindergarten (5 yrs. old) – 6th grade. Children’s Church is a meaningful worship service packed with Bible stories, crafts, and fun ways to explore God’s Word. It is held in the Student Chapel, our former Sanctuary.
When is Sunday School (also referred to as Small Groups)? It begins at 9:30 a.m.
Childcare is provided for infants and toddlers three and under.
What are Sunday Morning Small Groups or Sunday School?
At 9:30 a.m., members and visitors of all ages join together for our Sunday Morning Small Group sessions. Individuals are grouped by age and/or life stages so each group has a different focus and personality. All groups use the Bible’s teachings to guide us in our walk with Christ and tackle life’s daily challenges. Sunday Morning Small Groups are provided for children, teenagers and adults of all ages. Childcare is provided for infants and toddlers three and under.
What do people wear to your church?
When you visit us, you may see people in suits or dresses. You will also see people in shorts, jeans, and T-shirts. Mostly we want our visitors and everyone who comes to our church to be comfortable. We encourage you to come as you are. The most important thing is that you come.
Do you have childcare during Sunday Morning Small Groups?
Yes. We offer childcare for infants and children three and under. Children four years old through high school have the opportunity to participate in their own Sunday Morning Small Groups at the same time as their parents.
Where do I park?
First Baptist Church of Castroville has a private parking lot for all church events. If you are coming to our main services, it might be better if you drive around the Student Chapel and park between Highway 90 and the church. We have signs for parking up front if you are a visitor. Other than that, just park wherever you can. We can’t wait to meet you!
Can non-members attend Events, Bible Studies and Church Activities?
Absolutely. We are not a private club. We are here to reach out to everyone with the love of Christ. Everyone is always welcome at our church.
How can I become a member?
The most traditional way to become a member is to come down at the end of the service (when the Pastor asks if there is anyone who would like to join our church) and let the Pastor or one of the ministers at the front know that you would like to become a member. There is a short form to fill out to let us know who you are and whether you are coming to join us by letter (from another Baptist church), by statement – declaring that you are a believer and have been baptized by immersion or, if this is the day you have come to believe, by baptism and we will schedule you to be baptized by immersion. If you have been a member of another Baptist Church, don’t worry about bringing the letter with you; we will take care of all of that.
Once you have come forward, we have a new members’ class you will attend which will fill you in on what it means to be a member of our church. If you would like to attend this class first, that’s okay, too. Just let the teacher know you are thinking of joining.
Is FBCC part of a larger Baptist organization?
Who attends FBCC?
Anyone and everyone is always welcome here. The people at First Baptist Church of Castroville are as diverse as our community, representing an array of ethnic, socioeconomic and professional backgrounds. We guarantee that you will fit in.
Will I have to stand up or sign anything when I visit?
No. We do not call attention to first-time visitors in any way. We do hope, however, that you fill out a visitor’s form, found in the pocket on the back of the chairs, and place it in the offering plate, just so we know you came to visit.
Can I participate in the Lord’s Supper although I am not a member?
Yes. The Lord’s Supper is open to all who are followers of Jesus Christ and have acknowledged Him as their Lord and Savior. You need not be a member of First Baptist Church of Castroville; just identify as a member of the body of Christ.
Will you baptize my newborn?
No. At FBCC, we believe the choice to pursue a Christian life is a personal choice that cannot be made for an infant or child by his or her parents. However, we do have a dedication ceremony that allows church members to welcome a new baby. At this time, the newborn’s parents publicly commit to guiding their new baby in the Christian life, and church members commit to supporting, praying and encouraging the family.
I want to have an event at your church, who do I contact?
How do I make an appointment with the pastor or another minister?
Please contact the church office at 830-538-3220. If you are calling about an emergency, please let us know so one of our ministers can get back with you.
Does your church offer Bible Studies?
Yes. The church has many ongoing Bible studies including;
Thursday mornings at 7:00 at Sammy’s Restaurant for men
Tuesday mornings at 9:30 and Tuesday evenings at 7:00 for ladies

Life groups for adults at various times during the week

Does First Baptist offer Vacation Bible School?
Yes. Each summer, First Baptist Church of Castroville offers a one-week Vacation Bible School for kindergartners through incoming fifth graders. Kindergartners must be at least five years old. Watch our announcements and social media channels for information on this fun annual opportunity for children to learn about our Lord.
What is A.W.A.N.A.?
Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed (A.W.A.N.A.) is a ministry that helps children and teens develop their relationship with Jesus Christ. Through Bible study, games and hands-on activities, kids learn what it means to be a Christian and how to apply God’s teachings to their daily lives. A.W.A.N.A. meets weekly during the school year on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. There is no charge for A.W.A.N.A. itself but we do ask that parents purchase books and other items which help the kids in their learning journey. If you cannot afford to purchase the items, please don’t hesitate to speak to the Children’s Minister about some help that may be available for you and your child/children.
Do you have any outreach ministries?
Yes. First Baptist Church of Castroville has a variety of ministries to serve our local community, others in south Texas and members of our congregation. In addition, church members are encouraged to pray about new opportunities, and many have developed focused ministries that meet the unique needs of our community and church members.
